You need a 4-port RAID controller, if:
- You want to use virtualization on the server.
- You want to improve the reliability of the drives to keep the data safe. A hardware RAID controller is more reliable than a software one. In this case, drives are paired, which helps to relieve the load on the server's processor.
Important! To install a controller on a server, you have to be on the flexi-pack plan (€15/month).
How to install a RAID controller
For a new server:
- When ordering a server, you will receive a list of additional services. Add the controller from the list. Its price will be added to your invoice automatically.
- If you have already ordered additional hard drives, and you need custom drive partitioning, please specify it in the comment.
For an existing server:
- First, submit a ticket. Our specialists will issue an invoice.
- Pay the invoice and add a comment to the ticket.
- Confirm that you agree to lose all your data on the server. To install the controller, we will have to reinstall the system. Complete the verification.
- Schedule the server downtime for controller installation.
- We will notify you when the installation is over via the ticket.
Important! It is impossible to install a hardware RAID controller on servers with pre-installed NVMe drives.
